Elon Musk unveils plans to create a new AI startup to rival OpenAI and Google.

In recent days, there has been a lot of fuss centered around AI(Artificial Intelligence) technology owing to the recent breakthrough in the sector by OpenAI‘s ChatGPT bot. While many have used the AI bot, other technology firms like Google are in a race to roll out their AI models so as to capture a sizeable market share among AI users.

With the sector garnering more interest by day, other firms in other regions are also designing their own models to help them effectively compete in this nascent AI era. An example is Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce firm owned by Jack Ma, that is planning to roll out generative AI across its applications. Microsoft is also integrating AI capabilities into the Microsoft Office Suite and other applications under its management.

The rush in deployment and adoption of AI technology has raised eyebrows among notable players in the technology industry. Among them is Elon Musk, a serial entrepreneur who owns Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX among other numerous firms. According to Elon, the results of a rushed implementation could be catastrophic as AI has potential to go rogue if not properly regulated. He also attributed his deductions to the fact that there are no regulations and agencies to regulate and oversee the sector, leaving users to the plight of firms that will do anything to make profit while ignoring the users’ safety.

Mr. Musk has therefore revealed plans of unveiling an AI startup to address some of the issues he is warning about. In an interview, he said that he wants to create a “third option” that will challenge OpenAI and Google. He plans to brand his new venture as “TruthGPT”, with the main objective of “creating a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe”. With this objective in mind, Elon Musk aims to create a new generation of AI that seeks to do more good than harm.

While confirming the undertaking of TruthGPT venture, Elon has acknowledge that he is at a disadvantage against his competitors as he is starting late. His ambitions are however not clear at this point as masses around the world have been speculating this development for months now. Mr Musk however, recently filed paperwork for a business called X.AI Corp. During the same period, he bought thousands of GPUs and hired researchers from DeepMind for this project that is tied to Twitter. It is however, not clear to what extent TruthGPT is linked to the Twitter’s AI project.

It is pertinent to mention that Elon Musk was one of the early notable figures that backed OpenAI when it started back in the year 2015. Though he helped start OpenAI, Mr. Musk distanced himself from the firm after a reported disagreement with Sam Altman about who would be in charge of running the firm. In a more recent stance, he has expressed his criticism against OpenAI and Microsoft while claiming that the 2 firms are spinning off their new project for profits.

Mr. Musk is not the only entity concerned about the potential threat being posed by unchecked AI. Other figures have also expressed jitters towards the way the new technology is being rushed by profit-hungry firms. Some users have expressed concerns about sharing their data with AI models and most importantly whether their safety is being put in prejudice. As the situation continues to develop, many people are keen to know whether their jobs will be replaced with AI owing to recent capabilities from the models and with it, their earnings. Some users have even found it pertinent to prepare for new ways of making income in this AI era.
